Flavoured liqueurs are one of those drinks that can confidently be called a Polish speciality — the idea itself came to us from abroad back in ancient times, but it was in Poland that it gained so many enthusiasts and developed into hundreds of flavour variations. The Old Polish Liqueur Tournament in Poznań is a way to discover this diversity not through a connoisseur’s lecture, but through lively team competition.
The format is based on a quiz-style tournament: each team tries to guess the main ingredient of the nalewka they are tasting, as well as its “strength”, meaning its alcohol content. The team that comes closest to the truth wins. The rule is simple, but the complexity of the flavours and the considerable variation in the strength of the different nalewkas regularly provoke loud cheers when someone guesses correctly — and often quite a bit of surprise too, especially among international guests who are unfamiliar with this part of Polish tradition.
The nalewkas and liqueurs selected for tasting all have an interesting story behind them — they come from some of the oldest distilleries in Poland, include medicinal herbal nalewkas with a 15th-century tradition that are still produced by the same maker, as well as local specialities from Greater Poland, along with the stories behind them. The hosts of the tournament wear historical noble attire, transporting participants to a slightly different era.
The listed price covers a group of up to 20 people. Each additional 10 people incurs an extra fee of PLN 790.
